WHAT IS VITILIGO?
This is a disease of the skin characterised by one or more white spots, which are well defined and often surrounded by a darker halo which outlines the edges and makes it more evident compared to the normal skin surrounding it.
It is located in exposed positions, such as the face, neck, back of the hands and limbs. This is due to the gradual reduction, and eventually the complete disappearance of melanocyte cells which are involved in synthesising melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour.
